Last weekend we excitedly packed up and went out to the lake for a few days of fun, relaxation and visiting with our friends Karen, Quinton and their daughter Lily. Saturday morning the boys went golfing with my dad and although they said they would only do nine holes they ended up staying for another round. We really couldn't blame them as the day was almost perfect. Karen and I decided to take the kids to the main beach to PLAY ON THE PLAY STRUCTURE. With Megan in the snugglie and Ethan and Lily being pushed by Sarah in the double bike stroller we were off on our adventure.
Once at the park the kids played a bit on the slide and the monkey bars.
Their attention was soon drawn to the beach and lake (or pool as Ethan likes to call it!). This is were our adventure really began. Lily asked if she could go up to the water. She assured Karen that she would "just put her finger in". Thinking that a finger or perhaps even a toe was harmless we agreed and off they went.
As Lily approached the edge of the water she stepped into some sand that can only be described as quicksand like. In an instant her shoes and ankles had sunk right in.
At this moment she was quite distraught but she quickly perked up and went back to the edge. Figuring that Lily's shoes were already dirty and my kids feet were already wet we again thought what can it hurt and agreed to let them test the waters again.

As the pictures will clearly show you it only got worse from here. First the toes, then the ankles, then the hands, and knees and soon the kids were emerged up to their thighs and beyond. The great part about it was that even though it was FREEZING they were having more fun than we could have ever created with toys or games. It was awesome. At one point they were cats crawling around the sand meowing. Crazy. Unfortunately (for them) a very nice couple brought their daughter down for a walk on the beach and our kids led her straight down the path of mud , dirt and destruction. Soon enough she too was as wet as our crew and crawling around with them. Oops!!
While this frivolity was going on Megan explored the sand and played in the stroller. I attempted to dip her feet in the water but as you can see she wanted nothing to do with that idea.
Following a rather chilly walk/ride home for the kids we striped them outside and tossed them in the tub. Lucky for them they came clean - I can't say the tub was so lucky. What a mess. (Don't worry mom I scrubbed it soon after). Following a snack we warmed up on the front patio and got these cute pictures of the kids picking ONE flower each!
After lunch, realizing that we had been stood up by the men, we again ventured to the main beach for some ice cream. Sarah enjoyed bubble gum filled ice cream (yuck) while Ethan stuck with the always popular Smarties ice cream. Even Megan was able to enjoy her first taste of vanilla ice cream. All in all we had a fabulous time. We can't wait to do it again soon.
